WHAT IS IT ABOUT ?

The new meeting place for cross-border actors

For several decades now, cross-border territories have been described as “laboratories of European integration”, yet there are encouraging signs in cross-border news that are helping to strengthen their leading role.

This first edition of the borders forum will be a special meeting place for local, national and European cross-border stakeholders, a place for debating the challenges, obstacles and projects of these European territories on a daily basis, and an ideal time to bear witness to a new ambition for Europe.

Paroles d'intervenants

“Our fellow citizens in border areas have been particularly affected by the health crisis. The border, which was invisible to them, suddenly reappeared. In these living areas, where Europe is a reality, cross-border cooperation played a structuring role in managing the crisis. I am more convinced than ever that this cross-border cooperation is an example for European coordination and that these territories are real laboratories for Europe.”

Amelie de Montchalin

Minister of State for European Affairs, France

“The cooperation among border regions has been strategic during the pandemic and must be strengthened to boost Europe’s recovery and resilience. From health service to smart and sustainable transport, from environmental protection to shared innovation, the joint work of border regions can help pioneer ways to a stronger European integration, focusing on the real needs of citizens and local communities.”

Apostolos Tzitzikostas

President of the European Committee of the Regions

“Europe is lived and built on a daily basis in border regions. Despite the great progress made in the field of cross-border cooperation, the Covid crisis19 has revealed how borders can quickly become painful again, as well as the need to step up efforts to overcome cross-border challenges. I hope this conference will enable to draw fruitful conclusions and to adopt pragmatic and ambitious measures for the benefit of inhabitants of border regions.
