WHAT IS IT ABOUT ?
The new meeting place for cross-border actors
For several decades now, cross-border territories have been described as “laboratories of European integration”. Recent developments in cross-border areas have showed their leading role in European integration.
This first edition of the Borders Forum will be a special meeting place for local, national and European cross-border stakeholders, a place for debating the daily challenges, obstacles and projects of these European territories at a time of a renewed ambition for Europe.

SPEAKERS COMMENTS
“Building Europe together means leaving no-one behind. This is particularly important in cross-border regions which are often peripheral with fewer public services. I am determined to ensure we give border citizens and businesses an adequate level of access not only to basic infrastructure and public services, but also to employment, education and healthcare.”
Elisa Ferreira
European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms
“The cooperation among border regions has been strategic during the pandemic and must be strengthened to boost Europe’s recovery and resilience. From health service to smart and sustainable transport, from environmental protection to shared innovation, the joint work of border regions can help pioneer ways to a stronger European integration, focusing on the real needs of citizens and local communities.”
Apostolos Tzitzikostas
President of the European Committee of the Regions
“Europe is lived and built on a daily basis in border regions. Despite the great progress made in the field of cross-border cooperation, the COVID-19 crisis has revealed how borders can quickly become painful again, as well as the need to step up efforts to overcome cross-border challenges. I hope this conference will enable to draw fruitful conclusions and to adopt pragmatic and ambitious measures for the benefit of inhabitants of border regions.”
